Resolve

Weeds, weeds, weeds...oh, it's a constant battle isn't it? I live between a field and woods; pretty much all that I have are weeds. I'd say the weed to intended plant ratio is way out of whack. Normally, I accept the water grass in lieu of dense Kentucky bluegrass and the ragweed in lieu of rosebushes. I suppose I recognize defeat when it is literally creeping at my door...but not today. Today I took on those weavers of sinus pain to clear out a small flower bed. Do you know what I found? Ground hornets.

Now, I don't know if you've encountered these rascals of nature before, but they are huge (well, in flying insect terms not elephant terms) and scary looking (in any terms). They feast on cicadas/locusts. Even knowing this, (don't ask), it is quite surprising to see one winged creature carrying another of similar size to its lair.

After moving far away from the hornet's stinging capabilities and its anticipated anger at my messing with its home, I started wondering, do I let things of this earth carry me away? Do I have the resolve to not give in? The insects of late summer make a lot of noise in our trees, but in the end, they are literally picked up and taken away by a threat no bigger than they, just more dangerous.

Ladies, what have you determined on your heart today? What things of this earth are messing with your late summer serenade?

May God strengthen you today and may His living Word be the speed you need to thwart any attacks by this earth's nasty hornets. (A metaphor I certainly couldn't have imagined from any recent events in my own yard - thank goodness I'm not on reality TV - speed does not necessarily look graceful nor does it necessarily come without a few girlie shrieks).

Fall Bible study

Hi Ladies
Just thinking about Ed’s sermon yesterday—back to school and back to work. May I add back to Beth Moore Bible study?

We are so glad that there are around 30 ladies signed up for this study. The study begins this week! The morning group will meet on Tues (tomorrow) at 9:30 and the evening group will meet at 7:00 on Wednesday at the church.

We will be studying the book of Daniel and will be challenged to dig deep into God’s word. I know we won’t be disappointed in what God has to teach us. Perhaps some of you would share some insights of your study on this blog.

If anyone is still interested in joining us and hasn’t signed up, please come this week and we will do our best to get you a book soon. If you can’t join us this time, we would love to have you sign up for a winter session.

Hope you have a great week. So glad that we serve a God who longs to redeem, transform, and refine us.

Summer Bible Study

Hey Ladies!  Our study starts this Tuesday (June 23).  Thanks to all who have shown interest in this study.  It's new for all of us, so we're excited to see how everything comes together over the next six weeks.  We are hoping for a refreshing and relaxing time in fellowship and in the Word.

Hopefully, everyone has been contacted and given the details as far as where and when you will be meeting.  We have three different locations but all groups are starting at 7pm.  You will receive your workbook that evening. If you have any questions about your group or if you still haven't signed up and would like to be a part of the study, feel free to email or call me.  (You can get my information from the church office.)

I have had many people tell me they will not be able to make at least one of the meetings.  No problem!  If you miss a meeting you can check Beth Moore's blog and get the update that your group is getting.  (www.livingproofministries.blogspot.com)  Her blog is updated every Tuesday morning we are meeting.  The only thing you'll miss is the discussion with the rest of your group.  So if you miss a meeting, don't be discouraged, just check the blog, continue with your workbook, and join your group two weeks later!

Again, thanks for getting involved this summer!  We hope it is a blessing to all.
